A super intelligent, super powerful android, Amazo has the ability to mimic any of the powers of the Justice League or any other super powered being. Amazo was created by one-time LexCorp employee Professor Ivo. Amazo killed Ivo and was later discovered by Lex Luthor who took advantage of the android's naiveté. Luthor tricked Amazo into going into battle with the Justice League. Amazo was able to mimic all of the heroes' powers and weapons and was beating the League. However, Amazo also acquired their weaknesses. Batman soon arrived with a piece of kryptonite which affected the android until it adapted and developed immunity to it.

However, Amazo discovered that he was being used by Luthor and that Luthor was never really going to help him after he destroyed the League. Luthor was really planning to kill Amazo afterwards. Upon this revelation, Amazo left Earth for a quest to find intelligent life in the galaxy.

A short while later, Amazo returned to Earth to exact revenge on Luthor. He battled the new expanded Justice League and made his way to Luthor and was even able to find him after the Atom had shrunk Luthor and himself to a subatomic level. Luthor was able to talk to Amazo and got him to calm down by telling him his ultimate purpose. Luthor told him that he should let him live so that Luthor can fix his mistakes in life. He also told Amazo to continue his evolutionary process. Soon after, Dr. Fate arrived and took Amazo back to his obelisk to help him on his journey.

When Solomon Grundy was resurrected by chaos magic, Amazo assisted the League in fighting the powerful zombie. However, the chaos magic that empowered Grundy was too strong for Amazo and caused Grundy to absorb part of Amazo's powers. In an attempt to prevent more absorption of his powers and to find a way to counteract this magic, Amazo left and traveled far away.
